The Metalworking Studio

A 29 foot "geodesic dome" serves as garage and metalworking studio near the Phillips home. The variety of metals and in progress pieces accumulated outside the side door of the garage changes almost daily.

Stainless Cut Out

A freshly cut sun face leans against the garage wall among other pieces of metal waiting to be turned into art. The next step is to grind and polish each edge around the entire design. This is not the fun part of creating! The finished wall hanging will be approximately 42 inches in diameter.

Stainless Sun

After grinding the edges, the longer rays of the sun will be pounded over to create the dramatic 3-dimensional effect of the rays gently folding over the face. This step takes strength as well as sensitivity and assures that no two finished pieces are exactly alike.
